• Yarn: For the main braid a one stranded dark grey wool yarn and two stranded (losely woven) white wool yarn was used. The colourful ends was achieved with some cotton yarn (unknown origin) from the yarn stash.

I was in need for a chlid size Viking-age appropriate belt in a hurry, and gave braiding a try.

I followed the method from the video How to Create a Skjoldehamn Belt! Step-by-step Guide! on the YouTube channel Wyrd Kindred.

Since each “strand” actually consisted of two yarns, and I attempted to braid some of it on-the-go, and it took longer than I care to admit to get the pattern down, the black and white sections came out of order on several occasions.

I used a mixture of bobbin lace pins and sealing clips (I did’t have enough bobbin lace pins) to keep the strand grouping separated during the braiding process.
